Homemade Applesauce

A few weeks ago, we went to a a local farm (Eckert’s) for apple picking with friends. We had a blast and came back home with 10 lbs of apples to eat! We’ve consumed quite a few and Maggie just loves them. But we had so many extra we decided to try to make some apple recipes. The applesauce turned out so good, I just had to share this easy recipe with you.

First, peel, core, and chop about 3 lbs (6 medium) apples. Then in a medium saucepan, dump the chopped apples in with 1/3 c. water, 3 tbsp of sugar, and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon.

Bring it to a boil, then drop the heat to a simmer and cover for about 15-20 minutes. Then remove the cover and let it continue to simmer. The sauce will thicken for the next five minutes. Then turn off the heat and either mash or transfer to a blender until you get your desired consistency.

We ate some right away, and put the rest in jars to save in the fridge. It has become a tasty snack for us, and especially for Maggie.
